7-5-22   THOUGHTS

Romans 6 is a chapter about sin.  The first part discusses our being freed from sin in our,  parallel to Christ’s...  death, burial and resurrection baptism into Christ.
Col 2:12   “having been buried with Him in baptism, in which you were also raised up with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.”
The contemplation is that we would hereafter walk in a new life!  A few key words from our reading:   reign, alive, master, under, present, slaves, obey, committed, sanctification, free and outcome.  The OUTCOME named couldn’t be more obvious.  As a music piece crescendoes to a cymbal crash, so our reading ends with “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  We are to become FREE, stay FREE, and live expecting the FREE GIFT OF GOD, life with Him eternally.  So for one more morning, I arise in HOPE!

Rom 6:12-23
Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts, 13  and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14  For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace. 15  What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be! 16  Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness? 17  But thanks be to God that though you were slaves of sin, you became obedient from the heart to that form of teaching to which you were committed,  18  and having been freed from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. 19  I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further  lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification. 20  For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21  Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death.  22  But now having been freed from sin and enslaved to God, you derive your benefit, resulting in sanctification, and the outcome, eternal life. 23  For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 8:36       "So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”
Titus 2:14  who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.

My Prayer:
Thank you, O God, for the salvation that is in Christ Jesus.  Help us to never say that casually. Take us to the cross where your son bore the cost of our sin.  Help us to understand freed as opposed to under. Give us a zeal that is appropriate for this grace. We confess our weakness.  Give us the discipline to deny our extreme comfort.  May we seek the things that are above, and not the things of this world.  Teach us to mortify fleshly things, as we seek to walk in newness of life.     We ever pray in the name of the one who saves us,     Amen.
